The clashes between Saivites and Vaishnavites are portrayed in 'Dasavataram'.  There is also a scene which shows Kamal as Ramanuja being thrown into the sea tied to the Sri Ranganathar idol.

Swami Govinda Ramanuja Dasa has filed a case in the court saying no such event took place in the 11th century and it will hurt the sentiments among Hindus.  Some other scenes from the film 'Dasavataram' are also cited by him who is the leader of International Vaishnava Dharma Samrakhshana Sangam.

He has also cited that Kamal Hassan is shown as putting his feet on the Hindu Pranava mantra 'Om' and also doing  a similar act on Hindu holy scripture Geeta.
