It is customary to invite ‘everyone to come and bless the newly weds' and in the case of Shivakumar's daughter's wedding, it was literally that. Even long lost contacts and relatives were invited and as they all turned up in hordes, the wedding hall looked jam packed.
Brinda wed Sivakumar on November 13th in the presence of Chief Minister Jayalalitha and the reception took place last evening at the Ramanathan Chettiar hall in Santhome. The building glittered with light decorations and the interior was decorated like a palace. On the opulent dais was a swing for the bridal couple to be seated on.
The couple went up the dais at 6.15pm and the guests stood in line to greet them. There was such a long line that they stood and stood…and stood for ages. Most probably, the hall has never witnessed such a crowd ever before this.
Cinema stars, politicians, businessmen, literary people - from MPs to Solomon Papiah, everybody came armed with floral bouquets and gifts for the bride and groom.
Rajini arrived at about 7pm accompanied by his wife Latha. He wished the couple and in the blink of an eye, he had already vanished. When Surya went to see him off, Rajini advised him to take care of the guests…what style!
A very pretty lady was helping to receive the gifts and as people wondered who it could be, they came to know it was director Bala's dear wife and that shut them up! The relatives from Coimbatore wanted to take photographs with Surya and the star obliged them with a smile.
A guest wanted to have himself photographed with the bridal couple and looked around helplessly with camera in hand. Surya took the camera from him and clicked the photo, much to that person's delight.
Like a bus conductor, director Bala stood on the steps of the stage to help VIPs get on to the dais. Many who came armed with the wedding invitations, wondering if they would be admitted inside, vied with each other to get the autographs of Surya and Bala on their invitations itself!
As the guests continued to pour in even after 10pm, the swing meant for the bridal couple to relax in, went unused. As Sivakumar and family were being photographed with the VIPs, only younger brother Karthi was missing. The ‘Paruthiveeran' was outside as the welcome committee, inviting the guests!
Even as the crowds were trying to wish the couple, one could hear Saindhavi singing in another part of the hall. There were VIPs galore, but the person everyone was waiting for, was Jyotika! The minute they knew she was away in US, they packed their cameras in disappointment.
