The Sangam had sent out letters demanding explanations from those who had not participated. Most had sent in their responses but Asin, who had been shooting in Mumbai for the Hindi 'Ghajini,' sent in her explanation yesterday.

"I had to participate for a function in Mumbai where I am brand ambassador. Hence i regret that I could not participate in the hunger strike. In future, I would definitely participate in all programs organised by the Tamil film field and Nadigar Sangam," wrote Asin in her letter.
