Thimiru
For people who are tired of seeing villains on screen, 'Thimiru' will jolt them with a villi.
In a drawing of the Tamilnadu map, the camera zooms in on Karaikudi. This becomes a road in Karaikudi town. A group of thugs armed with cudgels thrash up a family and ask where Ganesh is. The shot moves to Theni, Usilampatti and other locations and one sees people who deny information being thrashed, but can't see those questioning.
Just when one is wondering who Ganesh is and why people are hunting for him, we see a medical college in Chennai and Vishal arrives. He's Ganesh that the thugs are after. As a student of Madurai Medical College, he is at loggerheads with the local villi Shreya Reddy who has Madurai in her terror grip.
Impressed that there is someone not afraid of her terrorizing ways, she decides that Vishal will be her husband and even decides on the muhurtham date. "Learn to be a woman first and then aspire for such things," advises Vishal. This makes Shreya so incensed, she decides to finish him off personally and ends up becoming a fatality herself.
As she struggles for life, she tells her rowdy brothers (Manoj K Jayan and Kerala Jayan)
that if she did not get Vishal, no one else should either. That is what starts the rowdies go hunting after Vishal. How he manages to encounter hostilities makes this an interesting action film full of usual masala, but narrated interestingly by the director. This is an action film alright, but the treatment of the story is quite novel.
Vishal has good understanding of his character. Even though the college rowdies try their best to provoke him, he remains unmoved, but when he finally does explode, it's wow!
When Vishal gets hemmed in by rowdies at the bus stand, one gets tense wondering how he will save himself. He removes an iron part from the bus, says "I'm not Chanakya but a Satriya!" and beats them black and blue. There's a feeling of satisfaction like having seen Jackie Chan in action!
Reema Sen looks beautiful in every frame and one never tires of seeing her. She even melts an ill tempered professor much to everyone's joy!
Shreya Reddy as the rowdy lady who bunches her skirt at her waist and challenges Vishal, "Hey, man! You will be my man!" has done such a great job, only a twirling moustache is missing. We are sure to see her in Tamil films for many more years to come.
Shreya's brothers Manoj K Jayan and Kerala Jayan have given a new slant to villainy.
As a hostel warden who gets beaten up wherever he goes, Vadivelu is a laugh riot.
"Maanaa Madurai…" and 'Ingoppuraana.." composed by Yuvan Shankar raja are sure hit the top of the charts. Every frame is proof of Priyan's skill with the camera. Kanal Kannan's fight compositions are infused with energy and imagination.
Till the intermission, it is admirable how the director Tarun Gopi has maintained the suspense of the hero and heroine having already met earlier. The tight screenplay where there is no lapse into dullness at any point, makes it hard to believe that this is his first directorial venture.
Tarun Gopi is sure to join the league of talented directors like Hari, Dharani and Lingusamy.
'Thimiru' will be a super hit.
